Tracks list

Features 24 bit remastering and comes with a mini-description. A really unique
little chapter in the career of Shorty Rogers – and a near-lost record
thats one of his best from the 60s! As you might guess from the title, the set
was recorded as a sort of stereo dynamics album – post-bachelor pad, but
in a mode that was very concerned with the overall sound qualities as much as
the actual music. But the setting turned out to be a really great thing for
Shorty, as it encouraged him to open up with his arrangements, and push the
group into territory that you wouldnt hear on his 50s albums!

Given the theme, the recording quality is excellent – and Shorty takes
keen advantage of this fact by letting the reed players carve out shapes of
sound in the air – while percussion players do loads of groovy things on
the bottom. Players include Paul Horn, Bill Hood, and Bud Shank on reeds, Emil
Richards on vibes, Shelly Manne on piano, and Pete Jolly on piano – and
titles include the original Kook-a-ra-cha Waltz, plus uniquely arranged versions
of Speak Low, Lover, Marie, Taboo, and Baubles Bangles & Beads.
